OPSAWG T. Taylor, Ed. Internet-Draft PT Taylor Consulting Intended status: Informational July 4, 2014 Expires: January 5, 2015 MIBs Passed From the IETF To IEEE 802.3 and Currently Documented In IEEE 802.3.1-2013 draft-taylor-opsawg-mibs-to-ieee80231-00 Abstract This document records the transfer of ownership of a number of MIBs relating to ethernet, from the IETF to IEEE 802.3. Like RFC 4663, it describes the procedures associated with the transfer. Unlike RFC 4663, this documentation is retrospective in nature, since the transfer happened several years ago. Deviations from the planned procedures described in RFC 4663 are noted for historical interest [in a later version of this draft - PTT]. Status of This Memo This Internet-Draft is submitted in full conformance with the provisions of BCP 78 and BCP 79. Internet-Drafts are working documents of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Note that other groups may also distribute working documents as Internet-Drafts. The list of current Internet- Drafts is at http://datatracker.ietf.org/drafts/current/. Internet-Drafts are draft documents valid for a maximum of six months and may be updated, replaced, or obsoleted by other documents at any time. It is inappropriate to use Internet-Drafts as reference material or to cite them other than as "work in progress." This Internet-Draft will expire on January 5, 2015. Introduction [RFC4663], published in September, 2006, described a plan for transferring four MIBs related to bridges from IETF to IEEE 802.1 ownership. Some years later, another transfer of ownership took place, this time related to ethernet and directed to IEEE 802.3. [RFC4663] clearly enunciates the motivation for the transfers and also provides an introduction to IEEE standardization procedures. The discussions of those topics will not be repeated here. The IEEE version of this second lot of transferred MIBs was published as 802.3.1-2011 in February, 2011. The IEEE 802.3.1 specification was subsequently updated. The latest version, IEEE 802.3.1-2013 [IEEE802.3.1-2013], is the basis for this document. 1.1. Requirements Language This document uses no requirements language. 2. IETF and Corresponding IEEE 802.3 MIBs This section tabulates the MIBs that were transferred to IEEE 802.3, identifying the IETF source document, the corresponding chapter of [IEEE802.3.1-2013], and the location of the MIB itself in ASCII format.
