**Step 1:**As we know, a whole of something is equal to 100%. In this case, we want to find what 1% of 517 is. We know that 100% of 517 is, well, just 517.**Step 2:**If 100% of 517 is 517, then we can get 1% of 517 by dividing it by 100. Let's do 517 / 100. This is equal to 5.17. Now we know that 1% is 5.17.**Step 3:**Now that we know what 1% of 517 is, we just need to multiply it by 1 to get our solution! 5.17 times 1 = 5.17. That's all there is to it!
